Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘑𑘻𑘘 (ghoṭa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀖𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁆- (ghuṭṭ-), from Ashokan Prakrit [Term?]. Compare Gujarati ઘોટ (ghoṭ), Hindi घूंट (ghūṇṭ), Punjabi ਘੁੱਟ (ghuṭṭa).
