Etymology[edit]

From the root मुच् (muc) +‎ -ति (-ti), from which also comes the verb मुञ्चति (muñcati, to loosen, let loose, free). Related to Lithuanian mùkti (to be released, to escape) (1g. munkù, 1sg. past mukaũ).
