Borrowed from Sanskrit राजन् (rājan), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrā́ĵs, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃rḗǵs (ruler, king). Doublet of राय (rāy), राणा (rāṇā), and राना (rānā).
