Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑁄𑀳𑀇 (rohaï), from Sanskrit रोहति (rohati), from older रोधति (rodhati), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hráwdʰati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hráwdʰati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁léwdʰeti (to grow). Cognate with Old English lēodan (to grow).
