Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (tûi-tûi "softly, not loud"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. Why does this denote the opposite of Etymology 1? Despite identical pronunciation with 推 in modern Mandarin and a similar semantic disparity, Old Chinese 退 (OC *n̥ʰuːbs, “to retreat, fade”) and (OC *n̥ʰuːns, “to discolor, fade”) do not appear to be related to this "lower" sense in Burmese.”
