A reduplicated present from Proto-Indo-European *h₂er-, suffixed with -σκω (-skō), from Proto-Indo-European *-sḱéti. Cognates include Old Armenian արարի (arari, “I did”), Avestan 𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬨 (arəm), and Sanskrit ऋत (ṛtá)
