Etymology

First seem in 1866 Chinese-English dictionary by Wilhelm Lobscheid, meaning "to reflex". The modern meaning may be wasei kango (和製漢語), orthographically borrowed from Japanese 反感(はんかん) (hankan), appears in 1920.
