Formed as an -i adjective from noun and adjectival noun 四角 (shikaku, “square, rectangle”).
- stilted, excessively formal, overly serious, as of speech
- Amari shikakui koto o iu na.
- Don't talk so formally.
Slightly less formal, and generally reserved for spoken use. In more formal written contexts, the -na adjective form of 四角 is used instead.
