Derived from ()まら (tsumara, the ()(ぜん)(けい) (mizenkei, incomplete or irrealis form) of verb ()まる (tsumaru, to be blocked)) + ない (-nai, adjectivizing suffix).[1] Not to be confused with ()まらない (tsumaranai) below, which is the negative form of the verb. Formed with a different suffix ない (-nai).
