Etymology 1[edit]

First attested in the Gyechuk ilgi (癸丑日記 / 계축일기), c. 1600 , as Early Modern Korean 나ᄅᆞ다 (Yale: nalo-ta). From the same root as 나루 (naru, ferry), Middle Korean ᄂᆞᄅᆞ (Yale: nòlò).

  2. (transitive, figurative) to convey (e.g. of a piece of writing)
    옮겨 나르기 쉬운 마음 생각 있다.
    Geul-lo omgyeo-ya-man nareugi swiun ma'eum-gwa saenggak-deur-i itda.
    There are feelings and thoughts that are easy to convey only when you put them down in writing.
