Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 누의 (Yale: nwu.uy). Also attested in the Chaoxian guan yiyu (朝鲜馆译语), c. 1400, as Early Middle Korean 馁必 (*nwuWi), possibly from Old Korean *nu-bi. Compare also Hamgyeong dialect 뉘비 (nwibi)[1] and Jeju 누의 (nuui).[2]
