The Gyerim yusa (계림유사 / 鷄林類事), composed in the 12th century, notes that "bamboo is called " (Middle Chinese (MC tajH), Sino-Korean (, dae)).

The Doosan Encyclopedia[1] writes that (dae, “bamboo”) is derived from Chinese (, juk), specifically from the "southern Chinese" pronunciation of tek (cf.
