Etymology 2
Of native Korean origin.
The Gyerim yusa (계림유사 / 鷄林類事), composed in the 12th century, notes that "bamboo is called 帶" (Middle Chinese 帶 (MC tajH), Sino-Korean 帶 (대, dae)).
The Doosan Encyclopedia[1] writes that 대 (dae, “bamboo”) is derived from Chinese 죽 (竹, juk), specifically from the "southern Chinese" pronunciation of tek (cf. Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "nan-hok" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF. 竹 (tek)).
