Korean

Etymology

Related to (obsolete) 하다 (hada), meaning many. The Middle Korean (h) is still preserved in the bottom position of 많다 (manta). First attested in the Yongbi eocheon'ga (龍飛御天歌 / 용비어천가), 1447, as Middle Korean 만ᄒᆞ다 (Yale: manhota). [1] First attested in the "Garae Eonhae" 가례언해 (garyeeonhae) 家禮諺解家礼谚解, 1632, as 만흐다 (manheuda) Perhaps a combination word of (wàn) or 滿 (mǎn) + 하다 (hada).
