Usage notes
았 (at, “at”) is used after syllables with “bright” vowels, i.e. 아 (a, “a”) and 오 (o, “o”). After other vowels, 었 (eot, “eot”) is used instead. If the syllable to which 았 (at, “at”) is appended ends in the vowel 아 (a, “a”), the two syllables usually contract:
