Korean

Etymology

First attested in the Yongbi eocheon'ga (龍飛御天歌 / 용비어천가), 1447, as Middle Korean 옳다 (Yale: wolhta). Compared with Mongolian ортой (ortoj), ᠣᠷᠤᠲᠠᠢ (orutai, right, true), Manchu ᡠᡵᡠ (uru, truth, true), Nivkh урдь (urd̦, to be good), Tamil உள் (uḷ, to be, to have) > உள்ள (uḷḷa, real, true) by Gang (2010). The h in the stem may be from 하— (ha-, “to do”), akin to 많— (man-, “many”).
