Etymology[edit]
현 (hyeon, clipped from 현금(現金) (hyeon'geum, “cash”)) + 질 (-jil, derogatory action-marking suffix).

- Phonetic hangul: [현(ː)질]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
