Etymology
From Proto-Celtic *klārom (“plank, board, table”) (compare Proto-Brythonic *klọr), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *kleh₂ro- (“plank”) (compare Ancient Greek κλῆρος (klêros, “lot, piece of wood for casting lots”)), probably from *kelh₂- (“to cut down”).
