Vietnamese

Pronunciation

Etymology 1

Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese (SV: tử). Some dictionaries (such as Thiều Chửu's) consider it as Sino-Vietnamese, but the sắc tone in is unlikely to be derived from the Middle Chinese rising tone, compared to the likely hỏi tone in tử. See also Mẹo, Thìn, Ngọ, Mùi.
