Etymology

Biathlon involves cross-country skiing (top) and rifle shooting. It is contested at both the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

From bi- (prefix meaning ‘two; both’) +‎ -athlon (suffix meaning ‘contest’), modelled after pentathlon.[1]
