Etymology[edit]
From the German word begleiten ("to accompany", or more figurativeely, "to walk hand in hand together"). Used by the European Alliance of YMCAs in the context of people development.

Begleitung f (genitive Begleitung, plural Begleitungen)
- Accompaniment. It implies the need to work with, rather than for people - to "get alongside" people and work in true partnership with them.
- The act of enabling individuals and communities to become more included and active citizens.
