Etymology

What's the etymology? Why the "lox" part? It's from Yiddish, but then why that word and not another? - -sche (discuss) 00:41, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

@-sche Likely from the colour, white skin is sometimes also described as salmon-coloured. And as a food it is a more visible word than the alternatives (whatever these would be). ←₰-→ Lingo ^Bingo _Dingo (talk) 10:41, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

I don't think it's the skin colour. "Lox is well known for its role in Jewish-American culture and cuisine, in which it is used as a bagel topping with cream cheese..." Equinox ◑ 12:02, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

I didn't spot anything on Usenet, Issuu, or Google Scholar (except one instance of the word ichthyosarcoloxism, which is apparently also not otherwise attestable). It's mentioned in a paper of which one copy is on academia.edu (if it were a use, I would spend more time trying to figure out if another copy existed somewhere durable like a university's archives). - -sche (discuss) 18:13, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Age of the word

According to Google trends, loxism has existed *at least* since January 2004 (I couldn't go further back). The, unsourced, claim that it was first found in 2005 seems to be false. 89.239.195.102 00:00, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Google trends (and Ngram) are not reliable at this granularity and "first attested in" doesn't mean "invented in"—it means the year of the first surviving attestation that could be found. If you find an earlier one feel free to change. —Al-Muqanna المقنع (talk) 08:10, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Disingenious Wording

I don't like the definition saying that "loxism" is the hatred of non-whites by Jews. In my research, it appears to be used to describe Jewish hatred of all Gentiles. Given the oppression Jews have faced in the past two thousand five hundred years, I can see why "loxism" would have formed against all non-Jewish peoples... not just whites! --2607:740:38:3:E8B1:8BF1:C15D:4DAF 23:54, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
