Unsorted list of things to research as time allows

• JA 惚れる ← ほる, also root /hos-/ as in 欲しい etc.

• KO 그리다 (geurida, “to long for”), from Middle Korean 그리다 (kulita), from Old Korean 慕理 (*KUli, “to long for”)

→ Unlikely. Oldest sense for 惚れる (circa 810) is 「茫然となる。ぼんやりする。放心する。」 Per KDJ,

[語誌]中古から中世にかけては老齢や種々の肉体的精神的衝動のために放心状態となる意であった。③のような「相手に夢中になる」「うっとりする」意に限定されるのは室町後期以降と思われる。また、その限定化は、古くからあった「痴呆」「耄碌」の意が濁音形の「ぼれる」「ぼける」に受け継がれたため、語形と意味の分担が生じた結果として考えることができる。

I suppose there might be something to 欲しい, but given the apparent unrelatedness to 惚れる, and the even-further mismatch between root forms /hos-/ and /kʌri-/, this doesn't look like a fruitful path to follow.

• JA 端 (“edge”)

• KO 가 (ga, “edge”), from Middle Korean ᄀᆞᆺ (kos, kas?, “edge”)

Iff we can find a pattern of KO (OKM, OKO) /k-/ matching up with OJP /p-/, there might be something. Odd phonetics, but there is the P/K alternation in Celtic, for instance.

• JA 打つ

• HU üt (“to beat, to strike”), perhaps from Proto-Finno-Ugric *äktɜ- (“hit, beat, cut”).

Far-off, but interesting.

• JA 腹 (“belly”), 張る (“to stretch taut”), 腫れる (“to swell”), 春 (“the spring season”), possibly also 墾る (“to clear a field”, perhaps related to the idea of "stretched taut"?), 晴れる (“to become clear”, said of the sky, likely related to "clear a field")

• KO 배 (bae, “belly”) ← OKM ᄇᆡ (poy)
• PIE *bʰelǵʰ- (“to swell, blow up”)

Again, far-fetched, but interesting thread to pick at.
