Welcome Message[edit]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Apisite (talk) 20:49, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Etymologies[edit]

You might wanna consider using {{bor}} (borrowings), {{der}} (less direct), or {{inh}} (for things like protoslavic, old czech, etc) for some of the etymologies you've been adding. Vininn126 (talk) 13:12, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you made a copy-paste error here or something, because the "stem" used in the conjugation template is that of a completely different word. 37.110.218.43 14:29, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like it would be a {{deverbal}}, unless I am wrong? Vininn126 (talk) 00:28, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I believe you're right. I will change it. Hswehli (talk) 00:32, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I didn't want to suggest it outright unless it was the case. this page has a decent list of the most common etymology templates, you might wanna look through it. There are probably more hiding out there. Vininn126 (talk) 00:34, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Hswehli (talk) 00:36, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Don't be afraid to ask me or other editors if you have a question or need help (the Welcome message on your talk page should have some useful links, too). Also, you may or may not want to consider joining the discord. Up to you. It's good to see an active Czech editor. Vininn126 (talk) 00:43, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User Page[edit]

Hey! You might wanna think about setting up your user page a bit more, and also maybe a {{Babel}} box, like I have on mine. Vininn126 (talk) 17:55, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Hswehli (talk) 17:57, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Will you please, any soon? ;-)) Thank you! (Nejste náhodou rodilý mluvčí češtiny?) --Ogressivnì Mydlithell (talk) 09:59, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Hswehli, It's been almost 2 years and you still didn't make it. Rodrigo5260 (talk) 00:01, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Synonyms category[edit]

Thanks for all the Czech verbs. Just a heads up that I added text like #: {{syn|cs|kupit|nakupit|naložit|naskládat|nastlat|navršit}} to each of these entries to replace the category that you inserted. This is one of two ways to add synonmys (the other is to make a new heading, see Wiktionary:Entry_layout#Synonyms). I'm totally ignorant of Slavic languages, so I'm glad to have you helping fill in these gaps. Let me know if I can help you with layout and categorization things. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:23, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your help! Hswehli (talk) 20:29, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

SOP redlinks in German entries[edit]

Hey. In definitions, you should only link to entries that either exist or should exist, in accordance with WT:CFI. Consider for instance Druckmessung: the given definition pressure measurement, while correct, links to an entry that should not exist (per WT:SOP), you should instead link to the parts individually: pressure measurement. Contrast this with Vorhofflimmern, where the entry atrial fibrillation does and should exist (hence it's correct that you link the two-word term in this case). I hope this makes sense. — Fytcha T | L | C 13:53, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Hswehli (talk) 13:55, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

collectives[edit]

Please don't add more collective labels to German entries, some of them are completely wrong. Just because a noun starts with "Ge-" doesn't mean it's a collective. What are you trying to do? Jberkel 21:41, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Linking from usage examples[edit]

Usage examples should not contain wikilinks to other entries. See Wiktionary:Example sentences#Official policy. Jberkel 12:15, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong etymologies[edit]

Hey. I fixed many of your incorrect etymologies. Among the edits that I've checked, as many as 50% were incorrect. Could you please go through your past edits and double-check all your etymologies and correct them if necessary? I suggest you consult Kluge and/or Pfeifer, they are very reliable. — Fytcha T | L | C 11:05, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will review them. Hswehli (talk) 17:28, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Babel[edit]

Do you think you could add {{Babel}} to your user page? It is not mandatory, just useful. Dan Polansky (talk) 15:32, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bad additions of Template:cs-IPA[edit]

I have corrected a ton of places where you seem to have blindly added {{cs-IPA}} without respellings when respellings were needed. Latest example: radioaktivní, which needs respelling {{cs-IPA|radyoaktyvní}} or {{cs-IPA|[dy,ty]}}. I would strongly recommend either not adding any more Czech pronunciations or being a lot more careful when adding them. Benwing2 (talk) 03:38, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Some others to give you an example of the issue: kondiční, multimediální, diagnostikovatelný, modifikovatelný, predikovatelný, editovatelný, diskutovatelný. Benwing2 (talk) 05:17, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arabic: مرعى not مرعی[edit]

Hello,

You have created an Arabic entry with a wrong letter, which looks identical, also the vocalisation was incorrect. The correct entry is now at مَرْعًى (marʕan). Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 00:37, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
