Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contribution so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

  • How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
  • Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
  • Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
  • The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
  • We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.

Again, welcome! —Stephen (Talk) 18:18, 20 June 2011 (UTC) Thank you! For your introductory. (Nisetpdajsankha 05:13, 21 June 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Babel[edit]

Hi, Nisetpdajsankha. It would be useful if you could add a Wiktionary:Babel box to your user page, just so we can see what languages you're comfortable in. Thanks! Ƿidsiþ 08:48, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Transliterations[edit]

Are you able to provide transliterations into the Latin script for Khmer? See transliteration for the meaning of the word if you're not familiar with it. And Wiktionary:About Khmer okay that doesn't exist. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:42, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I just know the meaning, but I don't know how to use IPA. If you know, please could you help me for adding it. (Nisetpdajsankha 12:54, 24 July 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Not pronunciation but transliteration. See for example កង់ (kɑng), where the transliteration is 'gong'. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:56, 24 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Yes, I know what you say, but can not write the transliteration because it must be used script that I don't know sound in Latin script. (Nisetpdajsankha 13:00, 24 July 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Hi. You could choose one of the transliteration systems here. The Khmer script is quite complicated for foreigners. You could help by providing the pronunciation, exact (IPA) or approximate, for example UNGEGN. As an example, see also Thai transliteration page in Wiktionary. --Anatoli 13:26, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have imported the transliteration table from Wikipedia (adjusted to make it work here and left only two types of transliteration) and created Wiktionary:About Khmer. Please have a look. I don't know Khmer, don't know how good it is. --Anatoli 13:51, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry moved the above page to a better location: Wiktionary:Khmer transliteration. --Anatoli 13:53, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Countries of Europe[edit]

Hi,

Could you add some Khmer translations for countries of Europe (if they are missing) or any other country, please? --Anatoli 01:42, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Khmer translation[edit]

Is it possible for you to translate this, or to explain the general meaning to me? Thanks --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:42, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is Pali text was written in Khom Scribt. It's so difficult for me. I just only transcribe it to be modern Khmer transcription. (Nisetpdajsankha (talk) 05:35, 5 June 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Please! look at this link [1], it may is of whole of the text but so difficult. Even it writes in Khmer script, the meaning is in Pali language not Khmer meaning. I think you should find someone who know Pali Khmer and can know the meaning. Sorry Μετάknowledge. (Nisetpdajsankha (talk) 06:16, 5 June 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Thank you so much, Nisetpdajsankha! I think it is the morning prayer for Buddhist monks: see here. I thought Cambodia was a Hindu country, though. Are there many Buddhists and Buddhist monasteries there? --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 16:57, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Khmer entries[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for your contributions. I encourage you to make Khmer entries as well, not just translations. I am afraid I might be the only one remaining editor (?) who knows how to make correct Khmer entries, even if I don't speak Khmer at all. Wiktionary:Khmer romanization would be a good start to get phonetic respellings right and numerous entries, which already use {{km-IPA}}, e.g. បទានុក្រម (paʼtiənukrɑm). The only good dictionary, which also provides pronunciations is http://sealang.net/khmer/dictionary.htm but it occasionally has some errors but it's normally good for reference. I am happy to help you get started with phonetic respellings, which shouldn't be a great deal for a native speaker, even if you don't know how modules and templates work. I was in turn self-trained and got help from User:Wyang who has unfortunately left the project but left these good modules and templates.

If you don't want to make new entries, there's still plenty of work checking existing entries for quality, checking senses, usage examples.

Usage examples using {{km-usex}} can be also have fully automated transliterations, if each word is defined and uses {{km-IPA}}. E.g. ប្រទេសកម្ពុជា  ―  prɑteih kampuciə  ―  Cambodia (country). If they are red-linked, they can phonetically respelled with {PHONETIC}. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 01:09, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
