First attested around 1439. From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English abjuracioun, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin abiūrātiō (“forswearing, abjuration”), from ab (“from, away from”) + iūrō (“swear or take an oath”), from iūs (“law, right, duty”). Compare French abjuration.
