Singularized plural of *bradh, from Proto-Albanian *bardza, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrh₁ǵós (birch) (compare Lithuanian béržas, Czech bříza, Ossetian бӕрз (bærz), English birch, Sanskrit भूर्ज (bhūrjá, Himalayan birch)). Lent Romanian brad (fir). Matzinger reconstructs *braȷ́ʉh sg, *braȷ́ai pl.[1]
