From Proto-Vietic *ciɲ (“leg, foot”). Might be related to Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɟuŋ ~ *ɟuəŋ ~ *ɟəŋ (“leg, foot”) (whence Khmer ជើង (cəəng), Bahnar jơ̆ng, Mon ဇိုၚ်) through some phonological progress.
