Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Vietic *ʔa-cɔːʔ, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *cɔʔ (“dog”); cognate with Semai co (“dog, servant, slave”), Halang chô (“dog”), Pacoh acho (“dog”), Khmu sɔʔ and Mang θɔː¹. Compare also Khmer ច (cɑɑ, “Year of the Dog”).
