From Old Occitan conoixer, from Vulgar Latin *conōscĕre, from the 12th century,[1] from Latin cognōscere, present active infinitive of cognōscō. Compare Occitan conéisser, conéisher, French connaître, Spanish conocer, Portuguese conhecer.
