German[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle High German erlaben, irlaben, equivalent to er- +‎ laben (to refresh).

Verb[edit]

erlaben (third-person singular simple present erlabt, past tense erlabte, past participle erlabt, auxiliary haben)

  1. invigorate, refresh

Conjugation[edit]

Luxembourgish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From German erlauben, from Middle High German erlouben. Probably an older borrowing from a time when the underlying phoneme (Middle High German -ou-) had not yet been monophthongised in Luxembourgish. Alternatively, the vowel may have been adapted to the related native noun Verlaf (compare German Verlaub).
