Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Dutch heugen, huegen, hogen, from Old Dutch *hugon, from Proto-West Germanic *hugōn, from Proto-Germanic *hugōną (“to think, consider”).
Alternatively, the Middle Dutch is from Old Dutch *huggen, from Proto-West Germanic *huggjan, from Proto-Germanic *hugjaną, where the geminate -gg- was simplified through influence from the noun huege (modern heug).
