Etymology

Either from iactō, reflecting a general /ja-/ > /je-/ tendency (cf. ienuārius), or back-formed from a compound such as eiectō. Attested in Virgilius Grammaticus,[1] the Leges Alamannorum, and Merovingian formulas.[2]
