Cognate with synonymous Central Kurdish کالان (kalan), کێلان (kêlan), Zazaki kalanî, Hawrami [script needed] (kêlane).

Ačaṙyan derives from Armenian կալան (kalan).[1][2] But according to Schwartz, from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "OIr." is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF. *kārta-dāna- (literally knife-place).[3]
