Etymology

From Old Turkic kap- (to close, contact, catch)[1], from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *Kap- (1. to snatch, take 2. to bite)[2]. Also compare Proto-Indo-European *keh₂p- (to seize, grab).
