Etymology

From Old Galician-Portuguese pan, from Latin pānem, accusative singular form of pānis, possibly from a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *peh₂- (to feed, graze). (compare Catalan pa, French pain, Galician pan, Italian pane, Romanian pâine, Spanish pan).
