Cognates include Avestan pad-, pâdha, Persian پا (pâ), Sanskrit पद् (pád), Hittite 𒉺𒋫 (pa-ta), Latin pēs (genitive pedis), Tocharian B paiyye, Latvian pēda, Lithuanian pėda. The Proto-Indo-European root was also the source of Ancient Greek πούς (poús) (genitive ποδός (podós)), Doric πῶς (pôs), Old Armenian ոտն (otn), and Old English fōt (English foot). , Gothic 𐍆𐍉𐍄𐌿𐍃 (fōtus).
