From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *platśi-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *pleh1ḱ- (to tear, rend). Cognate to Lithuanian plė́šti (to burst, crack), Latvian plêst (to tear) and perhaps German platzen (to blow, explode).
