Usage notes[edit]

In formal Standard German, würdig is usually construed with a genitive object (eines Familienvaters würdig), and a dative object may be considered incorrect. However, the dative is often preferred in less formal style (einem Familienvater würdig). Oftentimes, though, the colloquial language will simply avoid this phrasing altogether.
