- 1842, Николай Гоголь [Nikolai Gogol], Шинель; English translation from Claud Field, transl., The Mantle, 1916:
- Ну́жно знать, что Ака́кий Ака́киевич изъясня́лся бо́льшею ча́стью предло́гами, наре́чиями и, наконе́ц, таки́ми части́цами, кото́рые реши́тельно не име́ют никако́го значе́ния.

- We must here remark that the modest titular councillor was in the habit of expressing his thoughts only by prepositions, adverbs, or particles, which never yielded a distinct meaning.
Usage notes
[edit]"наречие" is for the larger forms of Russian that may be considered as "dialects", such as Northern Russian dialects as opposed to central and southern dialects. For regionalisms used in one specific region (like in Moscow compared to Yakutsk, Minsk, or Sevastopol), "говор" is used.
