Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀨𑁂𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁆 (*phekk), perhaps metathesised from Sanskrit क्षिप् (kṣip, to throw). Cognate with Gujarati ફેંકવું (pheṅkvũ), Marathi फेकणे (phekṇe).

  1. (transitive) to throw
    मुझ पर पानी मत फेंको!mujh par pānī mat phẽko!Don't throw water on me!
  2. (transitive) to trash, to throw out
    तुम्हारे पुराने कपड़ों को फेंक सकता हूँ?
