Inherited from Early Assamese আমি (ami, I, we), আহ্মি (amhi), from Kamarupi Prakrit 𑖁𑖦𑖿𑖮𑖸 (āmhe, I, we), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀅𑀫𑁆𑀳𑁂 (amhe, we), from Sanskrit অস্মে (asme) (locative of ৱযম্ (vayam, we)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *asmáy, from Proto-Indo-European *n̥smey. Cognate with Kamta আমি (ami), Bengali আমি (ami, I), Nepali हामी (hāmī), Hindi हम (ham), Urdu ہم (ham), Punjabi ਅਸੀਂ (asī̃), Marathi आम्ही (āmhī), Konkani आमि (āmi).
