From Proto-Indo-Iranian *káćšas (armpit), from Proto-Indo-European *koḱs-o-s, from *koḱs- (joint, corner). Cognate with Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬱𐬀 (kaša), Latin coxa (hip), Old High German hahsa (hollow of the knee).[1]
