Inherited from Old East Slavic хозя (xozja), Chuvash хуҫа (huś̬a). Cognates include Persian خواجه (xâje), Turkish hoca, Slavic: Ukrainian хазя́їн (xazjájin), Belarusian хадзя́ін (xadzjáin). Doublet of ходжа́ (xodžá).
