From Proto-Indo-European *h₂r̥-tu-, *h₂r̥-ti-, based on *h₂er- ‎(to fix, put together), whence առնեմ ‎(aṙnem). Cognates include Ancient Greek ἀρτύς ‎(artús, arrangement), ἀρτύνω ‎(artúnō, to arrange, to fit), Latin ars ‎(art), artus ‎(joint), Sanskrit ऋतु ‎(ṛtú).
