From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾptʾb /⁠āftāb⁠/, sunshine) (compare [Psalter Pahlavi needed] (ʾpdʾb /⁠ābdāb⁠/)), from Proto-Iranian *abi-tāpáh; ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *tep- (to heat, to be warm).[1] Equivalent to آف (âf) +‎ تاب (tâb).
