From Middle Persian ʾptʾb (/āftāb/, sunshine), from Proto-Iranian *abi-tāpáh; ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *tep- (to heat, to be warm).[1] Equivalent to آف(âf) +‎ تاب(tâb).
