Etymology 1

From the root ص ل ح (ṣ-l-ḥ).

Verb

صَلَحَ (ṣalaḥa) I, non-past يَصْلُحُ or يَصْلَحُ‎ (yaṣluḥu or yaṣlaḥu)

  1. to be righteous
  2. to be in good or perfect condition
  3. to be honest, to be upright
  4. (construed with لِ (li)) to suit, respond, answer the purpose, be adequate
    • 11 Century CE, Wallada bint al-Mustakfi, أنا واللّه أصلح للمعالي
      أَنَا وَ الْلَّهِ أَصْلُحُ لِلْمَعَالِي ، وَأَمْشِي مِشْيَتِي وَأَتِيهُ تِيهَا
      ʔanā wa l-llahi ʔaṣluḥu lilmaʕālī , waʔamšī mišyatī waʔatīhu tīhā
      I am, by Allah, adequate for high positions. And am going my way, with pride.
