- a sac that encloses the embryo or the fetus during gestation, the amnion or the chorion, the fetal membrane
- (Modern Standard Arabic) the round or disk-shaped organ that grows during pregnancy in the wombs of the females of many species of child-bearing mammals (placental mammals) so as to transfer nutrients to the child, the placenta
