Etymology

Univerbation of هَـ (ha-, now interrogative أَ (ʔa)) +‎ لـ (l-, affirmative particle, found as لَـ (la-, truly) and the exhortative لِـ (li-) the vowel of which disappears between فَـ (fa-) or وَ (wa) and a following verb).
