Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀓𑁆𑀓 (pakka) without compensatory lengthening, from Sanskrit पक्व (pakva, cooked) (whence पकना (paknā, to be cooked)), from Proto-Indo-European *pₔkʷ-wó-s, from *pekʷ- (to cook). Cognate with Punjabi ਪੱਕਾ (pakkā).
