Borrowed from Classical Persian قیچی (qayčī), from Middle Mongol [script needed] (qayči), ultimately from Proto-Mongolic *kaïčï. Cognate with Assamese কেঁচি (kẽsi), Hindi क़ैंची (qa͠icī) / Urdu قینچی, Punjabi ਕੈਂਚੀ (kaiñcī).
